Neighborforhire.com (“Neighbor for Hire,” “we,” “us”) operates an online marketplace that connects homeowners and residents with local service providers, including independent freelancers and service businesses. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Who we are
Our website address is https://neighborforhire.com. For any privacy question, contact us at neighborforhire.com@gmail.com.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account information — name, email address, phone number, password, and the account type you choose (customer, freelancer, or business).
- Provider listing information — business or trade name, service description, service area and address, photos, licensing and insurance claims, pricing, availability, and any custom trade details you enter on your listing.
- Booking and request information — the service address, dates and times, job details, and any notes or messages you send through the site.
- Messages and reviews — messages exchanged between customers and providers, plus reviews and ratings you publish.
- Support communications — anything you send us by email or through a contact form.
Payment information
Subscription and listing payments are processed by our third-party payment processor. We do not store full card numbers on our servers. We retain a record of what was purchased, the amount, the date, and the status of the transaction.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, we collect IP address, browser and device type, referring pages, and pages viewed, using cookies and similar technologies. If you allow it, your browser may share your approximate location so we can show providers near you.
Information from other sources
Some business listings on this site are created from publicly available business directory information — such as business name, category, address, phone number, and website — before the business has joined the platform. These listings are marked as unclaimed. If you own a business and want its listing corrected, claimed, or removed, contact us and we will act on your request.
How we use your information
- To create and maintain your account and provider listing.
- To show relevant providers and listings in search results and on maps.
- To transmit booking requests, quotes, and messages between customers and providers.
- To process subscriptions, featured placements, and other paid upgrades.
- To send transactional email such as booking confirmations, listing status notices, password resets, and receipts.
- To detect fraud, abuse, and misuse of the platform, and to enforce our Terms and Conditions.
- To improve the site, measure performance, and understand which trades and areas need more coverage.
- To send marketing email where permitted — you can unsubscribe from these at any time.
What is public on the site
If you publish a provider listing, the information on that listing — including your business or trade name, service description, service area, photos, pricing, features, and reviews you receive — is publicly visible and may be indexed by search engines. Do not put anything on a public listing that you do not want the world to see. Customer accounts are not published; a customer’s display name may appear alongside a review they write.
Who we share information with
- Between customers and providers — when you book or request a service, we share the information needed to complete it, including contact details and the service address.
- Service providers we rely on — hosting, email delivery, payment processing, mapping, and analytics vendors, each acting on our instructions.
- Legal reasons — where required by law, subpoena, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or the public.
- Business transfer — if the site is sold or merged, user information may transfer as part of that transaction.
We do not sell your personal information.
Maps and embedded content
We use a third-party mapping service to display listing locations and search maps. Pages may also include embedded content such as videos. Embedded content behaves as if you visited the other website directly, and those sites may set their own cookies and collect data about your interaction with them.
Cookies
We use cookies to keep you logged in, remember your preferences and saved searches, keep your cart and checkout working, and measure site usage. Login cookies typically last two days, or two weeks if you select “Remember Me.” You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but parts of the site — including login and booking — may stop working.
How long we keep your information
We keep account, listing, booking, and message records for as long as your account is active and afterward as needed to resolve disputes, meet tax and accounting obligations, and enforce our agreements. Reviews may remain published after an account closes, and may be shown without the reviewer’s name on request.
Your rights and choices
You can view and edit most of your information from your account dashboard at any time. You may also ask us to export the personal data we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Depending on where you live — including California and other U.S. states with privacy laws, and the EU and UK — you may have additional rights, such as the right to know what we collect, the right to opt out of certain sharing, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. Email neighborforhire.com@gmail.com to make a request; we may need to verify your identity first. Some data must be retained where the law requires it.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect your information, including encrypted connections and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Keep your password confidential and tell us right away if you believe your account has been compromised.
Children
This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Accounts require users to be 18 or older. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Independent providers
Freelancers and businesses listed on Neighbor for Hire are independent and are not our employees. When you share information with a provider — in messages, on a job site, or off the platform — that provider handles it under their own practices, not this policy.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the platform grows. We will post the revised version here with a new “last updated” date, and for significant changes we will notify account holders by email.
