1. About these terms
These terms govern your use of neighborforhire.com (“Neighbor For Hire”, “we”, “us”). By creating an account, listing a service, or booking a provider, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, don’t use the platform.
2. What Neighbor For Hire is
We are a marketplace. We connect people who need home and personal services (“Customers”) with independent freelancers and businesses who provide them (“Providers”). We are not a party to the agreement between a Customer and a Provider. We do not employ Providers, supervise their work, or guarantee its quality, timing or outcome. Providers are not our employees, agents, partners or representatives, and nothing a Provider says or does is said or done on our behalf.
Not for emergencies. Neighbor For Hire is not an emergency service. If anyone is in danger, or there is a fire, gas leak, flooding or electrical hazard, call 911 or your utility company first.
3. Accounts
You must be at least 18 to hold an account. You are responsible for keeping your login details secure and for everything that happens under your account. Give us accurate information and keep it up to date. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms.
4. Provider obligations
If you list a service, you confirm that:
- You are legally entitled to provide that service where you operate.
- You hold any license, registration, permit or insurance required by law for your trade, and any license number you display is accurate and current.
- The description, rates, availability and photographs on your listing are truthful and your own.
- You will honor the rate shown at the time of booking, and will not solicit payment outside the platform to avoid it.
- You are an independent contractor or business, responsible for your own taxes, insurance, tools and staff.
- You are solely responsible for the work you perform, for its safety, and for any damage, injury or loss it causes.
5. Customer obligations
You agree to describe the job honestly, provide safe access to the work site, be present or reachable as agreed, and pay the agreed rate plus the service fee shown at checkout. Do not ask a Provider to do work that is unlawful or unsafe. For work that requires a license by law (for example electrical, plumbing, HVAC or pest control in Texas), it is your responsibility to confirm the Provider’s license before work begins.
6. Badges and verification
Badges such as Claimed, License checked, Insurance on file and Verified Pro mean only what they say: that we received the document or confirmation described, at the time we checked it. We do not run criminal background checks on Providers unless a listing clearly says so. A badge is not a guarantee of a Provider’s identity, skill, honesty, licensing status after the date we checked it, or that any insurance policy will cover your job. Licenses and insurance can lapse, so for larger jobs ask the Provider for current proof before work begins. Ratings and reviews imported from other sites are shown with their source, and we do not verify them.
7. Bookings and cancellations
A booking is an agreement between the Customer and the Provider. Providers may set their own cancellation terms, which are shown on their listing. Cancel as early as you reasonably can. Repeated late cancellations or no-shows may result in account suspension.
8. Fees and payments
Providers keep 100% of their listed rate. We never deduct a fee from a Provider’s payout on a booking. Instead, a flat 8% service fee is added to the Customer’s total at checkout, on top of the Provider’s rate, and is paid by the Customer. When the Customer pays, the Provider’s full listed rate goes into the Provider’s own Stripe payout account and is held there until the job is done; the service fee and any tax go to Neighbor For Hire. The Provider marks the job complete, and the Customer then approves it, which releases the Provider’s payment. If the Customer takes no action within 24 hours of the Provider marking the job complete, the payment is released automatically. A Customer who has a problem can report it before approving, and the payment stays on hold while we review it. If a Customer’s bank reverses a payment through a chargeback, the Provider’s share for that job is taken back from the Provider’s payout account while the bank decides, whether it is still held there or was already paid out. If the bank rules in our favor, we send it back to the Provider. If the bank rules for the Customer, no payout is made for that job. If the payout account doesn’t have enough to cover the amount taken back, Stripe may debit the bank account linked to it. If a card’s bank warns us that a payment may be fraudulent, we may cancel and refund the booking before the job starts, or hold the payout while we check it. If a Customer chooses repeat visits when booking, the Customer authorizes us to save the card used for the first visit and to charge it for each later visit, at the same price as the first visit (without any one-time coupon) plus any tax, about 3 days before that visit. Each repeat visit is its own booking, and its payment is held and released the same way as any other job. If a charge fails, we email the Customer a link to pay, and after two failed charges in a row the repeat visits are paused. The Customer can skip, pause or stop repeat visits at any time from the My Jobs page, and can cancel a booked visit more than 24 hours before it starts for a full refund unless the Provider has already started it. The Provider can stop repeat visits at any time. Tips given to a Provider through the platform go to the Provider in full; no service fee applies to tips. Providers may also purchase a paid plan for extra features; plan prices are shown on our Plans and Pricing page. Paid plans are monthly subscriptions. A plan renews automatically each month, and the Provider’s payment method is charged the plan price at each renewal, until the Provider cancels. We show the price and how to cancel before the first payment, and we email a reminder 7 days and 2 days before each renewal. A Provider can cancel at any time from the Wallet page in their dashboard and will not be charged again after cancelling. When a plan ends, the listing returns to the free tier. Plan fees already paid are non-refundable except where required by law.
Payments are processed by Stripe. Neighbor For Hire is not a bank, escrow agent or money transmitter, and never holds a Provider’s earnings in its own account. Providers who receive payments agree to Stripe’s Connected Account Agreement, which includes the Stripe Services Agreement.
9. Reviews
Only Customers with a completed booking may leave a review. Reviews must be honest and about your own experience. We do not remove reviews on request, but we will remove content that is abusive, unlawful, contains personal data, or is posted by a competitor or someone with no genuine booking. Reviews and other content posted by users are the views of the person who posted them, not of Neighbor For Hire.
10. Claiming or removing a business listing
Business listings may be created from public information, such as a business’s name, address, phone number, website, hours and public ratings. If a listing represents your business, you may claim it by verifying that you operate it and choosing a paid business plan; the claim completes once we confirm it and the first plan payment goes through. Claiming gives you editorial control of the listing. If your plan later ends, the listing returns to the free tier: it stays published with its earned badges, and paid plan features stop. Submitting a false claim is grounds for immediate removal. Correcting wrong information or removing your business from the platform is always free: if you own or operate a listed business and would rather not be listed, or something on the listing is wrong, email info@neighborforhire.com and we will correct or remove it at no charge.
11. Content you post
You keep ownership of the text and images you upload. You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display and distribute that content for the purpose of operating and promoting the platform. Don’t upload anything you don’t have the rights to.
12. Copyright and trademark complaints
If you believe something on the platform, such as a photo, infringes your copyright or trademark, email info@neighborforhire.com with: your name and contact details; a description of the work you own; the link to the page where it appears; a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorized by you, your agent or the law; a statement that the information in your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner; and your physical or electronic signature. We will remove or disable the material promptly once we receive a complete notice, and we may close the accounts of repeat infringers.
13. Prohibited conduct
- Misrepresenting your identity, qualifications, licensing or insurance.
- Moving a booking off-platform to avoid fees, tracking or accountability.
- Harassment, discrimination, threats or abusive behavior toward anyone.
- Scraping, reverse engineering, or interfering with the platform’s operation.
- Posting false reviews or manipulating ratings.
14. Disputes between users
Try to resolve issues directly through platform messaging first. If that fails, report the booking before approving the job. The payment stays on hold while we review it, and we may release it to the Provider or refund the Customer based on what we find. We may act on accounts, but we are not obliged to mediate, and we are not liable for the outcome of any job. Chargebacks filed with a Customer’s bank are handled as described in section 8. Because we are not a party to the agreement between a Customer and a Provider, if you have a dispute with another user you release Neighbor For Hire from claims, demands and damages of every kind arising out of or connected with that dispute, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
15. Disclaimers
The platform is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that listings are accurate, that Providers are available, or that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free. We do not verify every claim made on every listing. Listing information that comes from public sources may be out of date. You are responsible for your own due diligence before booking or accepting work.
16. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Neighbor For Hire is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, punitive or consequential losses, or for loss of profit, data or goodwill, or for property damage or personal injury caused by a Provider or Customer, arising from your use of the platform or from any job booked through it. Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability to you for all claims is limited to the greater of the service fees and subscription fees you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred US dollars.
17. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Neighbor For Hire and its owner against claims, losses and costs, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, arising from your breach of these terms, your content, or any work you perform or receive through the platform.
18. Resolving disputes with us
If you have a dispute with Neighbor For Hire, email info@neighborforhire.com first and give us 30 days to try to resolve it informally. Either of us may bring a qualifying claim in small claims court. To the fullest extent permitted by law: any claim against us must be brought within one year after it arises, or it is permanently barred; claims may be brought only on an individual basis, not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, collective or representative action; and you and we each waive any right to a jury trial.
19. Trademarks
Neighbor For Hireâ„¢, the Neighbor For Hire logo and the “n” icon are trademarks of Neighbor For Hire. You may not use them without our written permission, except to refer accurately to our platform.
20. Changes
We may update these terms. If a change is material we will give notice on the site or by email. Continuing to use the platform after a change means you accept it.
21. Termination
You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you break these terms, or if we reasonably believe your use puts other users at risk. Sections 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 22 survive termination.
22. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas and the federal laws of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally or in small claims court will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Harris County, Texas.
23. General
These terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us about the platform. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. Our failure to enforce a term is not a waiver of it. You may not transfer your rights under these terms; we may transfer ours, for example to a company we form to run the platform. We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control. You agree that we may send you notices and agreements electronically, by email or on the site.
