1. About these terms
These terms govern your use of neighborforhire.com (“Neighbor for Hire”, “we”, “us”). By creating an account, listing a service, or booking a provider, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, don’t use the platform.
2. What Neighbor for Hire is
We are a marketplace. We connect people who need home and personal services (“Customers”) with independent freelancers and businesses who provide them (“Providers”). We are not a party to the agreement between a Customer and a Provider. We do not employ Providers, supervise their work, or guarantee its quality, timing or outcome.
3. Accounts
You must be at least 18 to hold an account. You are responsible for keeping your login details secure and for everything that happens under your account. Give us accurate information and keep it up to date. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms.
4. Provider obligations
If you list a service, you confirm that:
- You are legally entitled to provide that service where you operate.
- You hold any licence, registration, permit or insurance required by law for your trade, and any licence number you display is accurate and current.
- The description, rates, availability and photographs on your listing are truthful and your own.
- You will honour the rate shown at the time of booking, and will not solicit payment outside the platform to avoid it.
- You are an independent contractor or business, responsible for your own taxes, insurance, tools and staff.
5. Customer obligations
You agree to describe the job honestly, provide safe access to the work site, be present or reachable as agreed, and pay the agreed rate. Do not ask a Provider to do work that is unlawful or unsafe.
6. Bookings and cancellations
A booking is an agreement between the Customer and the Provider. Providers may set their own cancellation terms, which are shown on their listing. Cancel as early as you reasonably can. Repeated late cancellations or no-shows may result in account suspension.
7. Fees and payments
Booking is free for Customers, and we do not add a service fee to a Provider’s rate. Providers may subscribe to a paid plan; plan prices are shown on our Plans & Pricing page. Subscriptions run month to month, renew automatically, and can be cancelled at any time from your dashboard, taking effect at the end of the paid period. We do not take a commission on the value of any job. Subscription fees already paid are non-refundable except where required by law.
8. Reviews
Only Customers with a completed booking may leave a review. Reviews must be honest and about your own experience. We do not remove reviews on request, but we will remove content that is abusive, unlawful, contains personal data, or is posted by a competitor or someone with no genuine booking.
9. Claiming a business listing
Business listings may be created from public information. If a listing represents your business, you may claim it by verifying that you operate it. Claiming gives you editorial control of the listing. Submitting a false claim is grounds for immediate removal.
10. Content you post
You keep ownership of the text and images you upload. You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, display and distribute that content for the purpose of operating and promoting the platform. Don’t upload anything you don’t have the rights to.
11. Prohibited conduct
- Misrepresenting your identity, qualifications, licensing or insurance.
- Moving a booking off-platform to avoid fees, tracking or accountability.
- Harassment, discrimination, threats or abusive behaviour toward anyone.
- Scraping, reverse engineering, or interfering with the platform’s operation.
- Posting false reviews or manipulating ratings.
12. Disputes between users
Try to resolve issues directly through platform messaging first. If that fails, report the booking and we will review it. We may act on accounts, but we are not obliged to mediate, and we are not liable for the outcome of any job.
13. Disclaimers
The platform is provided “as is”. We do not warrant that listings are accurate, that Providers are available, or that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free. We do not verify every claim made on every listing. You are responsible for your own due diligence before booking or accepting work.
14. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Neighbor for Hire is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for loss of profit, data or goodwill, arising from your use of the platform or from any job booked through it. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the greater of the subscription fees you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred US dollars.
15. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify Neighbor for Hire against claims, losses and costs arising from your breach of these terms, your content, or any work you perform or receive through the platform.
16. Changes
We may update these terms. If a change is material we will give notice on the site or by email. Continuing to use the platform after a change means you accept it.
17. Termination
You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you break these terms, or if we reasonably believe your use puts other users at risk. Sections 10, 13, 14 and 15 survive termination.
18. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which Neighbor for Hire is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
